I don’t know if you will know Roblox. If this is not the case, you may be surprised to learn that it is one of the most played games worldwide, if not the most. Roblox is a game to make games, where anyone has the tools to create a huge variety of mechanics, apply to games and offer them to others. This has spawned a massive community that anyone is envious of, and Epic Games has a plan to get their piece of the pie.
Epic Games has the Unreal game creation engine, and the popular fortnite, so why not put these two things together? Said and done, because just presented Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) with which PC gamers will be able to design, develop and publish games and experiences directly in Fortnite, and in a way that is easier and more accessible than working directly with Unreal Engine 5. Thank you this tool, players will have access to all the resources of fortnite (modeling, materials, visual effects, etc.), which together with the new programming language called Verse, will allow you to generate all kinds of logic and mechanics inspired by the popular game.
UEFN will gradually incorporate functionalities through new versions, but in this first version it will already be possible to have tools for version control, real-time collaboration, creation of new visual effects, import of meshes, textures, animations and audio, and much more. Plus, of course, you’ll have all the ease in the world to publish the games on fortnite and be able to share them with the rest of the community.
At the moment it is all that Epic has shared, but it promises that it will be possible to see it in motion the next day 22 at the Game Developers Conference.
